Colombo

Colombo is an affluent and major coastal city in Sri Lanka. Colombo is the hometown of Arjie and his family. Colombo is where Arjie and his family live, and where his father works at his hotel. Colombo is one of several seats of power throughout the country for the government, and is one of the many places where the Tamil are outnumbered in great quantity by the Sinhalese. Colombo serves as the main setting for the novel, for it is in Colombo where Arjie begins his story and ends his story. Colombo is the location not only of his family’s hotel, but of Victoria Academy, the home of Soyza, and becomes the site of great riots against the Tamil.
