Chapters 8 and 9 Summary

Chapter 8 begins at Miller's Court, September 22, 1888. It has been some few days since the second murder and Kelly and Liz talk and drink at the Britannia. They exchange news—Liz and her partner, Kidney, have had a fight and Liz has been kicked out onto the street. Later, Abberline again meets Kelly in a bar and the two talk, both using an assumed identity. Abberline gives Kelly some money as a loan. He then returns to work and reviews the entire case. Kelly takes the money to the Nichol Mob and makes her protection payment—but is dismayed when they avow that they are not involved with the murder of her two friends.
