Logan is a small place where one person's business is everyone's business. Gossip is prevalent, and it is hard for characters to avoid people they may not wish to see. There is a claustrophobic feeling to the town, as well as one of isolation due to the harsh weather that can occur. It also appears to be a fairly conservative town in which people are easily cast out or ridiculed if they do not conform.
