This chapter is set in the Whistle Stop Café on November 18, 1940. Idgie is returning from the annual Dill Pickle Club fishing trip. Ruth is glad she's home because she worries when Idgie is gone, especially knowing she is with Eva. Ninny and Albert come to visit and Ninny is disappointed to hear that Idgie hasn't caught any catfish. Idgie tells her the fish won't bite a cold worm, which makes sense because Ninny doesn't like her food cold either. Ninny asks Stump to come shoot his gun at the blackbirds on the telephone wires at her house. She doesn't like them listening to her phone calls through their feet. Ruth asks her if she really believes that.....
