Idgie wakes Stump to see the snow on December 1, 1938. He is in third grade and has never seen snow. Ruth, Idgie and Stump go out and play in the snow. Later, Idgie walks him to school. She tells him a story to calm him on the way about a poker game she and Smokey played one time. She tells him that they played with a man named Pig Iron Sam. Idgie was winning and Pig Iron was mad. He said he would shoot the next person who dealt him a bad hand. As it turned out, it was his turn to deal and he shot himself at the table.
Stump finds a can of sauerkraut in the snow and thinks it came from Railroad Bill. Idgie tells him to put it back,.....
