Chapter 34 Summary

Evelyn is visiting Ninny at Rose Terrace on February 23, 1986. She asks if Ninny had said that Idgie and Ruth had a little boy. Ninny tells her his name was Buddy Threadgoode, Jr. They called him stump because he only had a stump for an arm after the accident. When Ninny and Cleo visited him, he didn't cry. She said Idgie raised him that way. Idgie had a tombstone carved for the arm and put it in the field behind the café. They had a funeral for the arm. Idgie gave him the nickname. Ruth thought it was cruel, but Idgie said this way no one will call him names behind his back.
