Chapter 22 Summary

This chapter takes place in the Rose Terrace Nursing Home on January 26, 1986. After stopping by her mother in law's room briefly, Evelyn goes to the lounge to find Ninny. She shares candy and tells Ninny the stress tabs worked. Ninny asks Evelyn if she worries about getting ants in her purse from the candy. A black nurse passes by and Ninny comments on the variety of skin tones in black people. She remembers Onzell, Big George's wife. She was very light skinned and her family had been upset that she married the blackest man they had ever seen. The couple had twins; Jasper was light like his mother. The other twin, Artis was black like his father. Their daughter Naughty Bird was black like her father, too. She got her nickname.....
