Chapter 13 Summary

This chapter takes place on January 5, 1986 in the home of Evelyn and Ed Couch. Evelyn is locked in her sewing room eating her second pint of ice cream because Ed comments when she eats fattening foods. Ed is watching football. Evelyn is thinking about her life. She is 48 years old and feels lost. She feels like life has gone on without her; she doesn't get most jokes and is shocked by profane language. She believed Ed when he told her that the Vietnam War was good and that if she raised her son to be sensitive he would turn out gay. Her children had passed her by. At fifteen, her daughter had more sex than she had. Evelyn doesn't like sex. Her daughter told her it was stupid not to.....
