Charles hires a carriage to take him to Winsyatt that afternoon. Charles is pleased to see the familiar workers at the estate, especially Mrs. Hawkins, whom had looked after Charles as if she were his mother, since his own mother had died when he was only one-year-old. Charles notes a few decorating changes inside the estate and thinks to himself that Ernestina will not be pleased at the changes made without her consent.
Charles meets with his uncle, who informs Charles that he has fallen in love and will soon be married himself. This news means that Charles may not be the first in line to inherit the estate should his uncle produce a son in his new marriage. Charles' uncle does offer the use of one of the houses.....
