Chapters 18 and 19 Summary

Two days later, Ernestina has a migraine that frees up Charles' afternoon for other activities. Charles' thoughts recently have been filled with Sarah and the idea of traveling again, preferably somewhere in the Mediterranean, but he heads for the woods in anticipation of encountering Sarah, once more.

Charles sees Sarah in an area particularly thick with ivy in which she is almost hidden. Charles calls out to her and she stops, surprised and wild looking with her hair all loose and flowing. Sarah offers up two fossil samples she has found for Charles, and he is pleased at the gift. Sarah thanks Charles for his offer of help the last time they met and tells him again that she cannot leave Lyme, especially to go to London.
