Summary

In Chapter 28, “hi irony,” Joy sends Frank a text and tells him that her parents do not want her to see him anymore. Because Frank knows that his mother and father will be working at The Store all day, Frank asks Joy to come to his house. He calls Hanna, but his call goes to voicemail.

It is not until after Joy and Frank have sex that Frank tells Joy that his father has cancer. Joy understands why Frank’s father got so upset at the Gathering. She wants to tell her parents, but Frank’s parents do not want anyone to know. Joy suggests that she should leave before his parents get home. They agree it is ironic that they had just finished fake dating. Frank wishes that things were simpler, that he could just walk away from everything, but he realizes...
