Summary

In Chapter 12, “illuminating,” Frank is disappointed with his performance on the SAT. His friends say they do not think they did well either. They remind themselves they have another chance to take the test.

At the next Gathering, Frank and Joy decide they will have to tell the other Korean-American friends about their dating ruse. They ask if they can keep their secret. Frank goes to the bathroom and notices his hands are shaking. He worries that one of their friends will blow their cover. For a moment, he even considers breaking off his relationship with Brit because it is so stressful. As soon as Frank gets a text message from Brit, he discards the idea that he could just break things off with her. She calls him “Frankly” (121) and points out it is convenient that is also his given name.
