The unnamed Native American reservation, also in Minnesota, is the second of the book's two primary settings. The storyline involving Nanapush and Margaret, as well as the final chapters of Fleur's revenge storyline, take place here.

Mauser's House

Mauser's house is the particular setting for much of the action in the first two thirds of the novel. The plot and relationships involving Fleur, Mauser, and Polly Elizabeth all develop within the walls of the house, walls constructed at least in part from wood taken from Fleur's land.
