Part 4, Chapter 12 Summary
After Roark and Wynand return, Roark sees that the Cortlandt Homes design has been changed. Two associate designers who want to express their own work have been brought onto the project. A social worker has insisted on an unnecessary gym. Though Peter tried to keep the agreement, he could not fight Toohey's bureaucracy. The changes push up costs. Peter offers to confess to their deal publicly, but Roark refuses. Peter asks what Roark will do, and Roark says that he won't do anything to Peter, saying that:
"It's I who've destroyed you, Peter. From the beginning. By helping
you. There are matters in which one must not ask for help nor give it" (532.)
Roark asks Dominique to help him, wanting to include her in his plans. She drives to Cortlandt Homes from a dinner party. She relishes the newness of her car, knowing it will soon be destroyed. In...
