Part 2, Chapter 13 Summary

Stoddard wins the suit. Dominique wants to publish her testimony, but the newspaper won't let her. Wynand cables the command that she be fired. Toohey visits Dominique, scathing against her testimony, and shows her the cable. She tells her editor that firing her makes her a martyr.

Katie visits Toohey at his office. She is unhappy in her social work, where she has set up pre-natal care classes among other work. She now hates people. She says that no one who is selfless is happy except Toohey. He says that she is too concerned with her own happiness. He tells her to give up on happiness and never think of herself or desire anything for herself. She is afraid of losing her identity, but he says she will gain a broader identity......
