Part 2, Chapter 3 Summary

Ellsworth Toohey has inherited $100,000 and then donated it to the Workshop of Social Study. Peter reads about it and still wants to meet Toohey. The Cosmo-Slotnik project is underway, and the clients are trying to choose statuary. The sculptor Steven Mallory is too violent, and Peter must find someone else. He glories in his ability to affect others' careers. Peter reads a preview of an article, by Toohey and about Peter, praising the Cosmo-Slotnick design for selflessness. A great architect is selfless, pleasing others. Along with the article is a note from Toohey asking to meet. When Peter comes back from lunch, he learns that someone has shot at Toohey, and his first concern is for whether or not the article will be published. The shooter, who missed his target,.....
