Part 2, Chapter 2 Summary

Dominique is obsessed with the vibrantly alive quarry worker. When a man makes advances toward her, Dominique is repulsed instead of feeling her normal indifferences. At first, she avoids all social contacts, but she misses the thrill Roark gives her. She attacks her bedroom's white marble fireplace. damaging it. She then demands that Roark fix it. When he sees it, Roark realizes that she damaged it herself. He breaks it completely and tells her that now it must be replaced. Dominique waits with "feverish intensity" for the arrival of the new marble - and her chance to see Roark again. When it arrives, though, Roark sends another worker in his place. Dominique is furious. While out on her horse, she meets him and asks why he sent someone else. He taunts.....
