Lucius Heyer has recovered from his stroke and is preventing Peter from continuing his rise in the company, refusing to retire. Heyer and Peter end up at odds. Meanwhile, Francon promises Peter the partnership if he wins the Cosmo-Slotnick architecture competition for "the world's most beautiful building," a New York skyscraper to house a movie theater and offices. Holcombe, Toohey, and a professor from Stanton will all be judges. Peter creates a Renaissance design, but he is unsure of himself and visits Roark, as he has done before. Peter takes Roark's ideas and modifies his plans before entering the contest.
Roark is not faring well. John Fargo has gone out of business, and the public blames Roark's design. The media makes fun of Roark, and he is running out of money. Roark.....
