Summary

In Chapter 45, Curzon was asked to go with Bellingham and another congressman to see the troops. Curzon watched as a new man, Baron von Steuben, drilled the troops. He told them that soldiers who marched together formed an army of steel. As the exercise was ending Eben came running toward Curzon, grinning and shouting.

In Chapter 46, when General Greene learned that Eben and Curzon had fought together, he gave Curzon leave to visit with Eben. Curzon learned that Burns had died of smallpox. Peter Brown had come back from the hospital and had been named the new sergeant. As they approached the hut, Eben lowered his voice and said he and the men had a plan to get Curzon free.
