Summary

The novel is set at an unknown point in the future The story opens in Los Angeles, where Jason Taverner, famous singer and television host, has just finished the latest episode of his popular variety television show, The Jason Taverner Show. Jason leaves the studio with his long-term girlfriend, famous singer Heather Hart. Jason and Heather are both secretly “Sixes” (6), meaning they were genetically engineered to be superior in intelligence, physicality, and general aptitude to ordinary people. Jason holds particular disdain for “ordinaries” (5). They fly away together in Jason’s personal rocket ship and decide where on Earth to go for the evening.
