Father Anastasy

Father Anastasy is the priest who offers moral support to Marfa Golov. He is a priest of the Orthodox Catholic Church, and is considered a specialist in Judaism. When the investigative party goes to the cave where the body was found, Father Anastasy gives a long, pseudo-scholarly history of ritualistic murders supposedly committed by Jews throughout history, giving twisted understanding of Jewish scripture as a basis of proof. "In the past," he says, "the Jew has had many uses for Christian blood. He has used it for sorcery and witches' rituals, and for love potions and well poisoning, fabricating a deadly venom that spread the plague from one country to another, a mixture of Christian blood from a murdered victim, their own Jewish urine, the heads of poisonous snakes, and even the stolen.....
