Summary

“The Moaning Bench” takes place in hell's waiting room. Sitting before the door to hell is The Gatekeeper, dressed in a shroud. The Gatekeeper informs five people sitting on the bench that they have died, but the fate of their souls has not yet been decided. They are asked to defend themselves and their lives. The Gatekeeper accuses an older man, Mr. Tannenbaum, of sleeping with Tibetan prostitutes and leaving refuse behind after climbing Mount Everest. A woman named Patty Bross is accused of promiscuity, while a miner named Wayne Goines is charged with drinking, smoking, and having sex with a teenager. When Goines mouths off, the Gatekeeper points a finger at him and the man is suddenly suspended in the air and thrown against the wall, grabbing his throat like he is choking. A twelve-year-old girl named Heather Gallini is accused...
