Summary

In Chapter 21, Malu rushes to check the list of acts to be in the talent show and discovers that the Co-Co's did not make the cut. She knew they had not performed really well, but was disappointed that they were not on the list. She questions the guidance counselor, Mr. Jackson, who seemed to like the group personally. He says Principal Rivera wanted the more traditional acts. Malu argues that the flyer said nothing about that and Mr. Jackson takes time to read the flyer again, agreeing that it was not specific. Mr. Jackson reiterates that the group was “fun to watch … But I think Principal Rivera wants it to be more family friends, maybe a little … quieter than the Co-Co's” (178).
