Summary

Readers are brought back to Neve’s relationship with Edwyn, who has become even more cruel to Neve than he was in Part I. Neve mentions that the flat seems lonely because the building across the street never has any lights on. Edwyn snaps at her and tells her to leave if she does not feel she is in the right place. Neve reflects on how this relationship has changed her behavior. She does not recognize herself, her voice, or her actions; and she refers to Edwyn as a guard dog she must provide treats to in order to prevent him from attacking her.
