Chapters One through Seven Summary

Alexandra Cooper is reading a "mock up" of the New York Post's front page that includes the story of Alex's death. The report is based on mistaken identity and the dead woman is actually Isabella Lascar who had been staying in Alex's house on Martha's Vineyard. Alex is a New York City prosecutor who works specifically in the sex crimes division. On this particular day, she has her friend Mike Chapman with her. He is a New York City police officer who works homicide cases. Alex hears from Mercer Wallace, a police officer is working on the case of a serial rapist who has become the focus of a huge investigation, and tries to focus on that case though she is still shaken by Isabella's death and the fact that the initial reports were that Alex was the victim.
