Nick Hornby's girlfriend of about a month, Carol Blackburn, dumps him right before a game against Derby. Arsenal loses the game, and Nick again sees it as a metaphor for his feelings. However, Carol did give Nick a life outside of football, and he is grateful for that. (Goodbye to All That, Arsenal v.
