Isabel Allende is the niece of slain Chilean President Salvador Allende. Her 1986 novel The House of the Spirits tells the story of one powerful family that captures the spirit of the country. It became an international bestseller.

Alfonsa Storni was an Argentine woman who wrote poetry at about the same time as Mistral. Her poems are available in English and Spanish in Seleccion Poetica De Alfonsa Storni/Selected Poetry, a 1999 paperback published by Editories Mexicanos Unidos.
