Summary

In Chapter 36, Woodward describes how Trump went on the warpath against Bannon, who gave the journalist Michael Wolff material for his book "Fire and Fury," a negative portrait of the president. Bannon believed Trump had not lived up to his nationalist agenda. Trump continued to consume media for several hours a day and had no real friends. He was distanced from his son, Barron, and his wife, Melania. His tweets may have nearly instigated a war with North Korea in early 2018. When Kim said that he could reach the U.S. with nuclear weapons, Trump tweeted back that he too had access to a "Nuclear Button" (301). He wanted to remove all dependents of U.S. military from South Korea in case of the outbreak of war, which could've moved Kim to even worse measures, but Trump's requests were not carried out.
