Chapter 11 begins with Thompson slumped in a Las Vegas bar in the early morning desperately trying to slog through his exhaustion and panic in order to drive the extremely conspicuous Red Shark across the few hundred miles that stand between him and L.A. His attorney is gone, the car full of drugs and weapons, and he does not even know the winner of the Mint 400, rendering the original purpose of the trip moot. He is finally spurred to action by the realization that checkout time at his hotel.....
