Book 5, Chapter 40 Summary
In March, the snow begins to turn to slush, making travel to town difficult. They consider moving into town, as Catherine's time is drawing near. They decide to move to Lausanne, the city where the hospital is located. They move to a nice hotel in the center of town, and life continues much the same as it had on the mountain, with the exception that Catherine stays in bed more, and Henry goes to a gym for exercise each day.
Book 5, Chapter 40 Analysis
With the upcoming birth, Henry and Catherine feel more and more "as though something were hurrying us and we could not lose any time together." This sentiment heightens the impending feeling of doom that is closing in on both them and the reader as they birth of their child grows nearer.
