Book 2, Chapter 19 Summary

Henry's legs heal well over the summer. He goes to the Ospedale Maggiore for physical therapy during the day, each evening rushing home to see Catherine. She has consumed his whole world, and he is happiest when he is able to spend every waking minute with her. Catherine is not able to be seen alone with Henry now that he does not need attendance, but Miss Van Campen has grown to like Catherine, and allows them to go out together with Helen Ferguson.

As for the war, it seemed as though it would be going for a long time to come. On his way back from the hospital one day, Henry meets some friends of his and has a drink with them.
