Book 2, Chapter 15 Summary

The doctor arrives in the afternoon. He immediately operates on Henry, removing a number of small steel splinters from his thigh. There is still more to be removed however, and Henry is taken to a different hospital for X-rays. The doctor who takes his X-ray asks him how many Austrian sons of bitches he's killed and Henry, eager to please, tells him plenty, although he has not killed any.

He returns to the hospital where he is staying, and Catherine comes in to show him the plates that have arrived for his leg. Three new doctors come in after Miss Barkley leaves, and they all strike Henry as being extremely inefficient. After looking at the X-ray plates and at Henry's legs, they decide that it will be at least three to six.....
