Tan Son Nhut

The first place in Vietnam that Perry arrives at is Tan Son Nhut. This is where he receives his assignment as a replacement to a Company.

Chu Lai

Chu Lai is "the boonies," where Perry and his friends are stationed for the majority of the book. Toward the end they move to a camp in Tam Ky.

Tam Ky

Tam Ky is "the deep boonies." Even farther into the country, and closer to the fighting, this area is where the squad goes in order to be advisors to the ARVN (South Vietnam Army).

Camp

At the camps the men feel safe. It becomes their home in Vietnam. It is when they leave the campgrounds that they are involved in a war.
