Chapter 9 Summary
Perry's company goes on a pacification mission. They go to a small village and show the people their goodwill, to make sure that the people see Americans as good guys. They give little gifts to the people and make sure there are no Vietcong hiding out in the huts.
They are supposed to go on another pacification mission, but it is canceled and don't know why, but Monaco speculates it's because they wouldn't be actually eliminating Vietcong soldiers.
Letters arrive; Peewee gets one from his girlfriend, Lobel from his father, Perry from Kenny. They hear news that another Company went to do a pacification mission in the same area they had been in and two guys got shot, but they couldn't find any Vietcong. Then the boys are told that they'll have to go back to the hamlet again in order to ambush the Vietcong. Vietcong often come to villages...
