Chapter 6 Summary
Perry and Lobel have guard duty that night. Perry remembers telling his mother and other people in his Harlem neighborhood that he was going into the army. Perry wishes he had someone else to write to. A television crew arrives at the camp and interviews each of them about why they are fighting in Nam. The crew goes with them on a patrol, filming everything. Monaco opens fire and Simpson tells him to hold it. They see a single VC. Perry's gun doesn't work, but between all of them the VC is killed. Perry discovers he forgot to load his weapon. They come back in time for lunch, then Monaco wants to go play volleyball with the Charlie Company because the "tall guy with the big hands" got hit and won't be playing.
