Chapter 5 Summary

Quiet days on the base, the boys get letters from home, watch a movie, eat the same food they always eat. During lunch an argument breaks out between Brunner and the cook. They hear about some fighting happening, but they still haven't done any. Perry thinks about what killing a "Cong" would be like. Then they hear some enemy fighter jets close by and are sent out to protect and flank one of the other companies. Perry, Peewee and the rest of their company spend the time waiting for something to happen, but nothing does. When they get back they find out that Charlie Company they were with lost nine people.
