Chapter 3 Summary

Perry, Peewee and Jenkins are flying to Chu Lai where their new Company waits. They are late arriving and have to get immediately into the waiting trucks to go to their new base. Jenkins has a talent for imitating voices and uses it to bond with Perry and Peewee.

Still on their way to another place, Perry, Peewee and Jenkins meet a large, tough man named Johnson.

Perry tries to figure out what has happened to his medical profile. No one knows about it, so Perry says that his knee doesn't hurt that much and agrees to wait and see what happens. They are supposed to go next to the "Deep Boonies," but after waiting for three hours no one has come to get them. Jenkins tells them that his father is the reason he's in the army. His father plans for him to eventually make it to Officers Candidate...
