Chapter 2 Summary
Perry thinks back to the situation he left at home. The counselor at school believed he could go to college, but Perry knew he didn't have enough money. Perry also remembers his younger brother, Kenny, and how Kenny wants Perry's side to win because of his basketball team losing a game upsetting him. Another Black man tries to bond with Perry and Peewee, saying that the Black men have to stick together. Perry and Peewee meet Jenkins, a gullible and frightened solider. They all get an orientation speech warning them to take their pills, stay away from the local women, and stay away from the black market.
