Summary

Part I: Part I: Problem: What Is Fair Play?

Chapter 2 is titled “Hidden Costs of Doing it All." The chapter opens with the following line: “The deck is stacked against us” (25). In the first section of this chapter, Eve and Jessica were traveling by plane from New York to California. They were talking about Eve's list. Jessica had to stop to relay instructions to the babysitter about her son's soccer practice while Eve dealt remotely with a satellite installation. During the flight, they watch a man who has a picture of a woman and three kids on his laptop. The man works on a presentation and plays a game. Jessica and Eve realize he has “the freedom to focus on one task at a time” (28) and wonder if his wife is dealing with every other facet...
