Book 1, Canto 3 Summary

The tale returns to Una, Red Cross's abandoned lady, as she wanders alone. A lion tries to attack her, but sensing her innocence, decides to protect her instead. The unlikely duo stumble onto a deaf and dumb girl and scare her to death. She flees and Una and her lion follow her back to a house. When no one lets Una inside, the lion tears down the door, and she and the beast rest comfortably inside the home of Abessa (the deaf mute daughter) and her mother, Corceca (who is blind). In the middle of the knight, a robber steps inside (to deliver a portion of his stolen goods to the crooked mother and daughter) only to be torn to pieces by the lion guardian. Una leaves the home amid much.....
