Abuse

The two main characters of this novel, Janie Hannagan and Cabel Strumheller, are both victims of abuse. Janie's mother is an alcoholic who did not want a child and she spends a great deal of her time ignoring Janie. Cabel's father lit him on fire and his mother abandoned him. For this reason, both Janie and Cabel have struggled to make intimate connections with other people. However, they have managed to put their energies into good things, such as working undercover for the local police, and have found one another. Even though they are still struggling with their emotional baggage from their abuse, they have managed to forge a relationship with one another that continues to grow.

In this novel, Janie and Cabel must face another type of abuse. Janie and Cabel have been assigned a case in which they must find a teacher...
