Chapter 11 Summary

Hope Hubris learns to install apartment cubes, and built out a bubble to make it inhabitable. He notices the competent workers on his way up. When he is put in charge, he tells the people that they will be part of a new kind of organization, they will work together and collaborate and experiment and even sing together. The workers are baffled, but when they do burst into song, the unity he hoped for begins to establish itself. A Saturnine spy shows up, and Hope welcomes him into the meeting, and says that they have nothing to hide.

Business suffers at first, but improves as people streamline the business and attract creative talent. Eventually, Hope's business takes him to Cago, in the Prairie, where he witnesses a protest. The women are angry not to be able to reproduce, and when one woman sets...
