Topics for Discussion

There are two developing relationships in the story, Henry and Joan, and Sam and Maggie. In what ways are the two relationships similar? In what ways are the two relationships dissimilar? Do the relationships add to the main plot of the story or detract? Explain.

Look at the two characters Kamapak and Dr. Dale Kirkpatrick. These characters are very different, yet both of them seem to revere the creatures created by the Satan's Blood or Substance Z. What causes each of these characters to view the creatures in awe? Does the way they treat the creatures make these two characters more the same or show greater differences in them? Explain.

Maggie has stress-induced seizures. Explain the importance of these seizures and what it says about Maggie. Does this work to make Maggie more believable as a character?
