Mitch

Mitch is the narrator of the story and one of its two characters. Mitch is 48 years old and lives in a trailer in a trailer park. He is in a relationship with a much younger woman named Mayfly. Over the course of the story, Mitch talks to Mayfly about why he thinks that they should end their relationship. Mitch points out that he is highly generous in the relationship in most conceivable ways. He is highly attentive to Mayfly and is emotionally giving, and he has a job that he attends regularly. Mitch and the narrative seem to imply that Mitch supports Mayfly financially, although that is not made explicit.
