Summary

In Chapter 7, "Miranda," Miranda gets a call from Manny. Hearing about Lucia's condition, Miranda considers returning to Ecuador. She thinks about her recent visit, Lucia's anger and violence. Miranda remembers Manny's desperation on the phone. She does not tell him Lucia lied to him about her travels.

Finally Miranda tells Stefan she must return. Stefan is frustrated Miranda thinks she can change Lucia. After buying the tickets, she tells Manny she is coming, but Manny says he started dissolving Lucia's pills in her tea and she is better.

In Chapter 8, "Manuel," Manny remembers his promise to protect Essy, and dedicates himself to his family. Four years pass in relative calm.
