Summary

In Chapter 17, Cowney wakes the next morning to discover Lishie has died. Cowney feels guilty that he has been away so much, and he wishes he had written down all the things she told him. He wishes she had told him more about Cowney Sr. Cowney finds Tsa Tsi outside. Tsa Tsi is searching for Edgar and is worried because he has been gone so long. Tsa Tsi says he sometimes sat on Lishie's porch with Cowney Sr. and Bud. He says both were wild and had “a special kind of bond” (126). Tsa Tsi says Bud has “not always been like you see him” (126) and that he was a good person when he was younger.
