Summary

In the world above, Orpheus writes a letter to Eurydice. He also sends her a gift, lowering a Shakespeare anthology to the ground by tying it to a string. In the underworld, Eurydice receives the book. She does not understand what it is for. She is frustrated, until her father teaches her to read. They read from, King Lear together.

Eurydice and her father are in her string room. He tells her a story: When he was performing at a piano recital, he forgot the chords to George Gershwin's 1930 song I Got Rhythm. He ran offstage. His mother made him return onstage and apologize to his audience. He tells Eurydice he still remembers the first four chords of the song. They sing the chords, off key. The chorus of stones yells for them to stop.
