Act 2, Scenes 22, 23, 24 and 25 Summary

This section examines the aftermath of Alan's hypnosis session and its effect on Dysart.

Scene 22 - This scene, the beginning of Act 2, opens with the same line as Act 1 - "With one particular horse, called Nugget, he embraces." Dysart recounts Alan's poetic description of Nugget, comparing his (Nugget's) grace to that of a ballet dancer. He then tells how Alan is now in bed and asleep, leaving him (Dysart) alone with Alan's evocation of the Equus image. He describes the image as challenging him to explain and interpret it, adding that doubts the image gives rise to are the doubts he's had in himself and his work all along. His musings are interrupted by the nurse, shouting that Alan and Dora are fighting. Dysart rushes.....
