Section 3: Chapter 4 and Chapter 5 Summary

In Chapter 4, Geric calls a meeting of forest javelin bearers at Sprucegrove and informs them that Tira has struck Bayern, capturing two of the towns in the southeast portion of the country. The king has taken his army to defend Bayern, and Geric will meet him with his own army. When Geric asks for volunteers, the boys are quick to offer to follow him to war. Oddly, Leifer also joins Geric's army, his anger at Bayern replaced by a desire to burn Tira. Isi also asks Enna to accompany her to the war as her maiden, and Enna is surprised to learn that Finn will also follow Geric into battle.

In Chapter 5, as Geric's army marches south, Enna watches Leifer. Soon the whole camp knows about his talent. Finally, Leifer offers to teach Enna, but she refuses...
