Raul Endymion

Raul Endymion is born on Hyperion as a peasant. Raul is twenty-eight at the beginning of the novel and believes he has his life figured out. He is comfortable with weapons, confident in his abilities, and with himself and his meager life. Raul has experience with women but admits that he has never been in love. He completes a series of odd jobs including sheppard, black jack dealer, and Home Guard soldier until unfortunate circumstances lead him to a death sentence for murder.

Raul is rescued from this death by Martin Silenus and asked to rescue Aenea from the Pax. At the moment he accepts this assignment, his life changes from one of insignificance to a life of a hero.
